If the climactic solicitation wasn’t enough of a sign, the creative team of DC’s Blue Beetle has taken to social media to announce that the series is coming to an end with July’s eleventh issue.

In a message posted to X, formerly Twitter, by writer Josh Trujillo, the team of Trujillo, artist Adrián Guitiérrez, colorist Will Quintana, and letterer Lucas Gattaoni released a statement that read, “As you may know, July’s issue 11 will be the final chapter of our Blue Beetle run. We are beyond grateful to DC for letting us tell these stories, but we’re sad to say goodbye to Jaime after so many years together. Still, we’re not done yet! We pulled out all the stops for our last two tales, including our oversized finale. We can’t wait for you to see what we’ve come up with!”

The statement continues, “It has been an honor celebrating and expanding the Blue Beetle legacy with you, and thank you for supporting the book as you have! We don’t forget it! Khaji Da!”

Although the series is ending with issue 11, the run by the current creative team will actually 17 issues long, as it includes the six-issue Blue Beetle: Graduation Day miniseries that launched in late 2022 and ran through early 2023, setting up the status quo for the current run. Both Graduation Day and the current Blue Beetle series broke new ground for DC, with each issue being released in two separate editions: an English language version, and a Spanish language version.

DC's solicitation for Blue Beetle #11 reads, "Jaime Reyes has found himself since becoming Blue Beetle. He’s made new friends, saved the world, and found a new place to call home as he’s struck out on his own. So what’s next for Blue Beetle and the rest of la familia escarabajo?" The end of the current Blue Beetle series is not a sign that DC is moving away from using the character, it should be noted; while the series ends in July, October sees the release of This Land is Our Land: A Blue Beetle Story, a YA graphic novel reimagining of the character by Julio Anta and Jacoby Salcedo.
