Marvel Comics reveals a new Wonder Man set to debut this summer - and makes us worry about Simon Williams in the process

There's a new Wonder Man coming to Marvel's comic book line this summer, but what's going to happen to the old one?

The Popverse coverage of the ComicsPRO Annual Meeting 2026 is brought to you by Lunar Distribution. Commited to Retailers. Focused on the Future of Comics.

Mighty Marvel Synergy strikes again this summer! Following on from the critically acclaimed Wonder Man series on Disney+ — which reimagined Simon Williams as a struggling actor who’s trying to keep his superhuman abilities to himself and just forge a career as an actor in his own right — Marvel Comics will be introducing a brand new version of Wonder Man into its core comic book universe this summer, it’s been revealed.

And, like his MCU counterpart (and unlike the original comic book Wonder Man), this one will be black.

The new Wonder Man’s existence was revealed at ComicsPro 2026 by Marvel SVP of Print, Sales & Marketing David Gabriel, who revealed that he’d be one of a new group of Marvel characters coming out of the upcoming Reborn: Ultimate Impact series, empowered by the Origin Boxes of the Ultimate Universe — but beyond a brief appearance onscreen (captured in this admittedly low-quality image below; my apologies for that), nothing else was revealed about him.

For those wondering, Hostilicus is also a new character set to appear in Reborn: Ultimate Impact, but we know even less about him.

The tease of a new Wonder Man does raise the obvious question: what’s going to happen to Simon Williams, the current holder of that name in Marvel’s comic book canon? Marvel is launching a new five-issue Wonder Man series in March featuring that version of the character that it promised was “sure to make headlines,” so now we’re wondering (no pun intended): is Simon Williams going to die in the next few months…?

We’ll know more about that when Wonder Man #1 begins March 18. The new Wonder Man will appear in Reborn: Ultimate Impact, which launches May 20.

At the 2026 Comics PRO Annual Meeting, Popverse will be covering the announcements, the conversations, and the insight from the likes of Marvel Comics, DC Comics, VIZ Media, Yen Press, Image Comics, Skybound Entertainment, and more.
