Marvel teases a mysterious new Venom as the hero (?) inside the new Spider-Man symbiote this fall

Who is inside the new Spider-Man costume for Venom this fall? Fans will have to wait until November to find out

It’s been a week since we learned that Venom was going to be getting his own Spider-Man costume this fall — and now Marvel is revealing more about what fans should expect… including the potentially surprising detail that this isn’t the Venom everyone is expecting it to be.

Officially, the Spider-Man-costume Venom will be introduced not in December’s Venom #252 but in the previous month’s issue of Battleworld, the upcoming revival of the original Secret Wars concept that brings together multiversal variants of familiar Marvel characters. The Venom with a Spider-Man costume will be a new variant version of the character created by Jordan Morris and Luciano Vecchio, according to the publisher — with the Spider-Venom variant going from Battleworld #3 to his own story in Venom #252, as one of three stories in the over-sized issue.

The other two stories in the Venom issue will be a main story by Al Ewing and Paco Medina — the renumbered, re-titled Venom series is a continuation of Ewing’s All-New Venom, which launched in December 2024 and has Mary Jane Watson in the symbiote suit — and a third story by Tom DeFalco and Ron Frenz, the veteran creators who worked on Amazing Spider-Man in the 1980s when the symbiote suit that would become Venom was originally introduced. That suit debuted in 1984's The Amazing Spider-Man #252, hence the big deal being made about Venom #252.

But who actually is the new Venom? Marvel’s not saying, just calling him a “mysterious new character” and using male pronouns… Expect big reveals and more when everything begins November 26 in Battleworld #3, and then December 3, when Venom #252 is released. For now, check out the preview art and design work released by Marvel as teasers.
