Superman's true Dragon Ball Z counterpart isn't Goku, says DC artist Dan Mora - it's Gohan

Mora's DBZ fandom allows him to identify the true Superman of the saga

Like many good people, Superman and Justice League Unlimited comic book artist Dan Mora is a big fan of Dragon Ball Z. However, Mora isn’t interested in the traditional conversation about whether the Man of Steel could beat Goku in a fight — instead, he feels that the real Dragon Ball/Superman crossover revolves around a different character altogether.

During the DC: Celebrate Superman panel at C2E2 2025, Mora revealed that he thinks that Superman’s true analog in Dragon Ball is actually Gohan, not Goku. And… he’s right, isn’t he? Gohan may be incredibly powerful, but he’s not a fighter in the same way that other DBZ characters are — instead, he’s more humble, more restrained, and steps in only when necessary… just like Superman.

And then, of course, there’s his Clark Kent-inspired eyewear choices:

So now that Mora has identified the Dragon Ball/Superman team-up that the world needs, someone needs to ask him whether or not this makes Goku the Jor-El of the story. If so, we need to get working on that Marlon Brando/Goku mash-up video right away.

(Also, can someone at DC and Viz make a Superman-meets-Dragon Ball comic happen for real? You know that Dan Mora would be up to at least offer cover artwork, especially given his similar duties on the just-announced tokusatsu-inspired Immortal Legend Batman.)
