Great news, comics fans - DC's storied Elseworlds line is coming back in style this summer, and just in time for one of its stars to take her (slightly more canon) place in the DCU. Popverse is thrilled to announce the publication of Supergirl: Survive, a brand-new alternate-reality storyline in which Kara Zor-El must rescue her most important charge yet - a baby Superman - as they are rocketed off a doomed Krypton.
DC announced the new Elseworlds title here in the spring, and as I probably don't have to tell you, comics reader, their timing couldn't have been better. At the same time Supergirl's scifi survival tale is making waves, the comic book world is preparing to meet the Supergirl of James Gunn's DCU, played by Millie Alcock, in her titular movie coming this summer.
We're getting ahead of ourselves, though. Supergirl: Survive comes from the comic team of writers Ethan S. Parker and Griffin Sheridan and artist Rod Reis, who also provides work for the series covers.
"Kara Zor-El lives a life of small problems," reads DC's official synopsis of the comic, "School dances, family squabbles, and the impossible task of holding her floppy baby cousin Kal—but Krypton has big ones. As General Zod tightens his grip and the planet begins to burn, Kara and Kal are launched into the stars together, trapped in a prototype rocket and fighting to survive a universe that doesn’t care if they live or die."
Supergirl: Survive comes to comic shops June 3, and if you're keeping track, you'll notice that's just a little over three weeks before James Gunn's DCU gets its own take on (an older) Kara Zor-El. The book will feature at least two variant covers by Taurin Clarke and Guillem March, both of which are below, along with the main cover by Reis.

But that's not all the Kryptonian chaos DC has in store for its newest batch of Elseworlds - along with Supergirl: Survive comes Superman: Father of Tomorrow, which sees Jor-El in the escape rocket to Earth instead of Kal, and is created by Kenny Porter and Danny Earls. Finally, DC has also announced a sequel to their much-beloved fantasy reimagining of the DCU - Dark Knights of Steel II, by Tom Taylor and Otto Schmidt, with covers by Yasmine Putri.
Supergirl: Survive blasts into comic shops on June 3, with its big screen companion, the DCU's Supergirl, soaring into theaters June 26.
