A former Marvel Spider-Man artist has created his own R-Rated bootleg version of Peter Parker
Ex-Spectacular Spider-Man artist Jim Mahfood brought The Arachnid Enforcer - an "over-the-top, creator-owned, Halloween-flavored, superhero parody comic book" - to Kickstarter, and there's still time to back it

Success in comic book can often feel like one creator ripping off another. For example, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles began as, above many things, a riff on Frank Miller's Daredevil. And look - as long as you wear the fact you're spoofing your favorite comic book character on your sleeve, there's not always hard feelings about what you're doing. Hell, sometimes the comic book community even welcomes this kind of wink-wink character creation.
Case in point: The Arachnid Enforcer.
Appearing on Kickstarter earlier this year, The Arachnid Enforcer is an R-Rated spoof of Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, courtesy of actual ex-Spidey artist Jim Mahfood. According to the crowdfunding page, The Arachnid Enforcer is "an over-the-top, creator-owned, Halloween-flavored, superhero parody comic book unlike any other! An incredible fusion of creepified heroics, indy comics, horror, comedy, and psycho-sensual mayhem!"
If you're wondering how that sounded to the comic book crowdfunding community, well, just take a look at the money raised. With a goal of $7,500, Mahfood's spooky Spidey satire netted a neat $80, 519, roughly 1073% of what it was seeking. Not terrible, right? The campaign wrapped on Halloween of this year, but if you've been reading this and thinking - 'Hey, that's a parody I could get behind,' you're in luck: the book is still taking Late Pledges.
Even if this isn't your vibe, isn't it kind of comforting to know that the same kind of inky, heartfelt but slightly psychotic parody spirit that brought us things like the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is still alive in the comic book community today? Now if only someone will please listen to my Green Goblin x Succession idea.
Marvel's most reliable superhero has proven he can do a whole lot more than just 'whatever a spider can.' Swing into Spidey's history with Popverse's...
Just watch out for that radioactive blood.
