Coinciding with the impending release of the next Tom Holland/MCU movie Spider-Man: Brand New Day, Marvel Comics is going back in time to revisit the 'Brand New Day' story from which the movie takes its name (and possibly more). Longtime Spidey writer Dan Slott is returning to the Marvel wall-crawler for Spectacular Spider-Man: Brand New Day, a seemingly-ongoing series reteaming him with Spidey veteran artists Marcus To (main series artist), Marcos Martin (special back-up stories), and Phil Jimenez (cover artist) that will be set in the time period of the 2008 - 2011 overarching 'Brand New Day' arc.

"Spider-Man is my favorite character in all of fiction. Heart on my sleeve here—I love writing Spider-Man,” shares Slott, who up until recently was Marvel exclusive, but is now writing both DC's Superman and Marvel's Spider-Man. "We're going to reveal hidden secrets and plant explosive seeds that will pay off and affect what's happening in Spider-Man's world today! These will be stories that matter and that will have major consequences!"

In the marketing for this announcement, Marvel brands 'Brand New Day' as Spider-Man's "most celebrated era", which is debatable considering the current Ultimate Spider-Man run, the previous Ultimate Spider-Man run, and perhaps a few other storylines that come to mind (and that you could tell us in the comments).

According to Marvel, Spectacular Spider-Man: Brand New Day will see Peter Parker up against Kingpin, Mr. Negative, and even the anti-hero called the Punisher. It's all centered around Kingpin's little black book of his criminal empire, which is being called 'The Lexicon.' (Sounds like a Lex Luthor black book, eh?)

Spectacular Spider-Man: Brand New Day #1 goes on sale May 13.
