Marvel finally reveals the new Sorcerer Supreme(s) - and they're very familiar to fans of MCU magic
There's more than one new Sorcerer Supreme in Marvel Comics' upcoming new comic book series of that name - but MCU fans will know who they are, no matter what

After notably trying to keep the identity of both the title character and creative team of its new Sorcerer Supreme comic book series a secret in the last couple of rounds of advance solicitations, Marvel Comics has revealed just who is replacing Doctor Doom and Doctor Strange as the most powerful magician in the Marvel Universe, and who is making it happen — and, yes, it’s a little more complicated than fans might have been expecting.
Wanda Maximoff, the Scarlet Witch, will be the new Sorcerer Supreme as of this December — or, rather, Wanda will be a Sorcerer Supreme, as her position will cause a rupture in the magical hierarchy of things, leading to a breakaway faction naming its own Sorcerer Supreme. Turns out, she’s also a character familiar to MCU fans: Agatha Harkness. The two will come into conflict immediately in the new series, but who will emerge victorious and, well, supreme…? Don’t take anything for granted; after all, the series isn’t named after a particular character, but instead the position they fill…
The creative team for the title, previously referred to only as Writer M and Artist M, will be Steve Orlando and Bernard Chang. Orlando’s identity was likely kept secret because he’s been the writer responsible for Wanda since 2023’s launch of his first Scarlet Witch series, making it easier for fans to guess the identity of the new Sorcerer Supreme.
In a statement about the new series, Orlando said, “When it comes to the Scarlet Witch...anything's possible! Those are the works Wanda lives by, and they're the words we as creators live by too. So, with the Sorcerer Supreme title in the wind after One World Under Doom, the question became — who's the next to wield the cloak and the eye? Or more precisely — who could hear such powerful artifacts crying out from the edge of destruction? And in the Marvel Universe, there's one person above all who hears you when no one else will — Wanda Maximoff!”
Sorcerer Supreme #1 will be released December 31. Check out the covers for the first three issues by Leirix in the gallery below.
