DC's Orion is "the new emo king" in Ngozi Ukazu's upcoming sequel to Barda

Check, Please! artist/writer Ngozi Ukazu is working on a second New Gods book called Orion, after the success of Barda.

Hot on the heels of her Barda OGN for DC Comics, Check, Please! artist/writer Ngozi Ukazu is working on a new book for DC - again returning to the Fourth World.

During the 'Discover DC' panel at this year' ALA Annual, Ukazu announced that she was working on a sequel to Barda focusing on Orion - one of the central heroes of the Fourth World, and sometimes an ally (but other times an enemy). Orion appears in the original Barda OGN, but will be taking the spotlight in this second book.

Ukazu said that for Barda (and what is now her Fourth World series), she didn't need to change much from the original versions of these characters created by Jack Kirby. She said she's aiming to put a 'young adult' spin on them, and calls Orion specfiically "the new emo king" - saying he has an internal world that hasn't been completely exploded (yet). There's no announced date for Ukazu's Orion series, nor if it will be an OGN like Barda or be serialized in comic book format. Stay tuned to Popverse for more on this exciting new project.
