Marvel's Wolverine Laura Kinney is relaunching Generation X as Generation X-23

Since Logan and, later, Deadpool & Wolverine, the character once known as X-23 has only become more and more an important part of the Wolverine story. (Not least of which because she is herself a Wolverine officially.) Now, she’s getting to lead her own ongoing series as the next generation of the Weapon X program grapples with her dark and violent past. Laura Kinney, aka Weapon X-23, has been confirmed to be the star of the upcoming Generation X-23 comic from Marvel.

The official announcement that Generation X-23 would be hitting shelves in February 2026 came as part of the Marvel Comics: X-Men panel at New York Comic Con. Of course, you’d already know that if you were following along with our liveblog of the event. We have a few more details to share, plus a hint at what the plot of this ongoing comic series will look like.

Generation X-23 #1 will be written by Jody Houser, with art by Jacopo Camagni and a cover by Partha Pratim Sarkar. The story will focus on Laura Kinney’s life after she has escaped from the Weapon X program and is trying to put her life back together. However, Laura and her friend Gabby run into someone who seems to be a long-lost friend, who brings a plot twist that threatens to turn their worlds upside down. Marvel has promised that the series will feature “a host of new heroes and villains” for Weapon X-23 to contend with. (Maybe she can hang out with Spider-Man, as the original has done on a regular basis - most recently in the Year in Marvel '25 pack available from Whatnot both at NYCC 2025 and online during the show.)

Generation X-23 #1 hits shelves in February 2026 and will have the new Wolverine uncovering secrets of her past with friends old and new.
