Why Static quit being a DC/Milestone superhero (and his return) to be revealed in The Dakota Incident tie-in to New History of the DC Universe

Static is back and in his Static Shock animated costume. Find out why (and what's next) in New History of the DC Universe: The Dakota Incident.

Static is one of the most pivotal superheroes in modern comics, but as longtime Milestone fans (and even casual ones) can tell you, he's been absent for a bit in DC's main continuity. Fresh off of his surprise return in the DC K.O. tie-in The Kids Are All Fight, an OG Milestone editor and some talented colleagues are telling why Virgil Hawkins hung up the superhero game, and what brought him back - as well as how he and the Milestone pantheon of heroes (and villains) are now squarely in the main DC Universe.

In the upcoming anthology one-shot New History of the DC Universe: The Dakota Incident, writer/editor Joe Illidge and what could be the next generation of Milestone creators have united to tell the story of Static, Rocket, and more, and how a fated 'Dakota Incident' brings them back together and brings them into the DCU just when it needs them the most.

“Static says some ominous things [in DC K.O: The Kids Are All Fight],” Illidge told AIPT Comics' Chris Coplan recently. "He goes, ‘I haven’t put on this costume in a while.’ What does that mean? And then he’s in his costume, which looks more akin to the costume from the animated series. So what does that mean? All the questions are going to be answered in this 40-page story, which we’re all very proud of."
