You might think that your favorite podcast is a killer podcast. But what if it was actually a podcast that led listeners to kill? That’s the question asked by the first series from new comic book publisher Ignition Press that, fittingly, goes by the name Murder Podcast.
Created by Jeremy Haun and artist Mike Tisserand — along with colorist Nick Filardi and letterer Andworld Design — the series tells, according to Haun, “a story about a group of podcast fans that suddenly find out about a cursed podcast that is inexplicably making people kill and they want to know why.”
Sounds fascinating, right? (Pun intended.)
“Everybody has a favorite podcast. Everybody in our lives have podcasts that they listen to,” Haun told Popverse about the project. “What if you're listening to your favorite podcast, it ends, the next one kicks on, and you're like, ‘oh, this sounds cool, it sounds right up my alley,’ and then a few seconds in, you're gone? And when you and when you come to, you've murdered every single person around you, and you have absolutely no idea why.”
Murder Podcast will be the first launch from Ignition Press, the company founded last year by Haun, former Boom! Studios president Filip Sablik, former IDW editor-in-chief Jamie S. Rich, and film and television producer Eric Gitter.
“One of the reasons we picked it as our first project is because, obviously, there’s an audience for horror in comic shops and bookstores, but the number of people who love that genre is so much larger and wider and broader than that, right?” Sablik added. “The people that love true crime podcasts, and podcasts in general, is broad, and so really, part of what we’ve been trying to construct is a publishing line-up that invites people in, and meets them where they are.”
More about Murder Podcast will be revealed when a Kickstarter campaign for the series launches April 15. Popverse will have more from Haun and Sablik about Murder Podcast, and Ignition Press as a whole, in the coming weeks.
