Mitsuhiro Arita is a household name in Japanese pop culture for his work in the tabletop gaming and video game industry, and how he's looking to break into the American comic book market. With several Marvel Comics variant covers already published, Mitsuhiro is now coming to America in a partnership with Usagi Yojimbo creator Stan Sakai and Dogu Publishing to be the featured guest of their Comic-Con International: San Diego 2024 booth - and to meet fans like you.
"I am thrilled to attend SDCC, widely regarded as the pinnacle of pop culture conventions," Mitsuhiro tells Popverse. "I am grateful for the opportunity to collaborate with Sakai and his IP Usagi Yojimbo, illustrating covers that have opened many doors for me in the comic book industry. I have several covers coming out with Marvel, and my first TMNT cover will debut at the convention."
Mitsuhiro will be at Dogu Publishing's SDCC 2024 booth at #4807 all weekend, with three limited edition versions of his Usagi Yojimbo variant seen here, as well as his variant of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #1.
"Last year, through the introduction of my friend and best-selling author, Ryo Tsukamoto, I had the extraordinary opportunity to meet Mitsuhiro in Tokyo. Little did I anticipate that this meeting would pave the way for a collaboration with the illustrious Mitsuhiro, whose captivating illustrations have enriched the childhoods of fans globally," Dogu Publishing CEO Jerry Blank says. "It is genuinely thrilling to facilitate the partnership of two living legends for this project, particularly in celebration of Usagi's 40th anniversary."
Although a humble man, Stan Sakai is the biggest star in most rooms he enters and will be sharing the booth all weekend with Mitsuhiri - and tells Popverse he is "honored" for the experience.
"Mitsuhiro Arita is a legend in the illustration and card world and is bringing his immense talent to comic books," says Sakai. "We are honored to welcome him into the Usagi family and to our booth at the San Diego Comic Con."
Come meet Sakai and Mitsuhiro at SDCC 2024 July 24 through 28 at Booth #4807.
Stan Sakai shares his passion for Usagi Yojimbo and Netflix's Samurai Rabbit.
