Marvel is relaunching Deadpool & Wolverine - but ditching the whole Wolverine part of things

The Merc with a Mouth is looking more series and more deadly than we've seen him before

To say that Deadpool & Wolverine reversed the fortunes of Marvel’s Merc with a Mouth is a bit of an understatement. Deadpool seemed like one of the many characters destined to be lost in the Disney acquisition of Fox, which brought the X-Men back into the Marvel Studios cast, but now Marvel Comics wants to tap into the new excitement for the character, even if it means breaking Deadpool and Wolverine up for the time being.

During the Marvel Comics: X-Men panel at New York Comic Con 2025, we found out that a new ongoing series is coming in February 2026. Titled Wade Wilson: Deadpool #1, this series features a Deadpool that has been pushed to the edge of even his tenuous concept of reason. Marvel gave this description of the new series: “Deadpool is a man on the brink, and that means the jobs are deadlier, the stakes are higher, and the humor is darker than ever before.  But Wade Wilson isn’t laughing. A dark memory haunts Deadpool, as a mysterious client leads him down a troubling path.  This way lies redemption?  No, something far worse. Wade can never be forgiven for what he’s done… the new ongoing series begins!”

With no Wolverine to be seen in the series (don't worry; you can find him in the Year in Marvel '25 pack from Whatnot, available at the show and online), Deadpool has to stand on his own once again as he confronts his own murderous past with fewer of his trademark quips and meta-humor than fans might be used to. Wade Wilson: Deadpool #1 launches in February 2026. It is written by Benjamin Percy, with art and cover by Geoff Shaw.
