Even Marvel Comics was unsure about Wolverine's height after Hugh Jackman was cast

Don’t believe everything you see in the movies. Despite Hugh Jackman’s intimidating stature (6’2), the comic book version of Wolverine is known for being short. Various Marvel handbooks place him around 5’3. Do you remember that joke in Deadpool & Wolverine where we meet a short version of the character? That was a reference to his height in the comics.
However, the success of Fox’s X-Men movies caused some at Marvel to question Logan’s height. In 2001 Marvel launched Ultimate X-Men, a new version of the team that took place in an alternate universe. This new take on the X-Men was largely inspired by Bryan Singer’s 2000 X-Men film. As a result, artist Adam Kubert was unsure how tall to make Wolverine.
During a panel at Dragon Con, Adam Kubert recalled the uncertainty surrounding Ultimate Wolverine’s height. “Back when I did Ultimate X-Men, I was confused. That was the reaction to the first X-Men movies coming out. I didn’t know whether to handle him as 6 feet tall, or how he actually is at 5 feet fall. So I kind of never showed his feet.”
Marvel eventually decided that Ultimate Wolverine was taller than his 616 counterpart. According to The Official Handbook of the Ultimate Marvel Universe: The Ultimates and X-Men (2005), Wolverine is 5’9. This is about six inches taller than the 616 Wolverine and six inches shorter than Hugh Jackman. In other words, Marvel decided to meet in the middle.
