Marvel is trying really hard to keep its replacement for Doctor Strange secret - even to the point of not revealing who is writing or drawing the comic
We still don't know who the creative team is behind Marvel Comics' Sorcerer Supreme series, even for the series' second issue

I'm sure if you're reading this, you might be comfortable with the idea that other characters besides Doctor Strange have been Sorcerer Supreme in the Marvel Universe and beyond. (Personally, my favorite Sorcerer Supreme is Kushala, better known as the Spirit Rider imbued with the Spirit of Vengeance, but I digress.) After the events of the current One World Under Doom comic book event - in which Doctor Doom is the Sorcerer Supreme, although he doesn't exactly use that power for good - a new Sorcerer Supreme will rise in the pages of December's new comic book series titled, fittingly, Sorcerer Supreme. However, we don't know who will flaunt the fancy red cape... nor, curiously enough, do we even know the creative team bringing this series to life.
Case in point: while Sorcerer Supreme #1 launches on December 31, 2025, we've already got an advanced solicit for issue #2, and it deliberately leaves out the names of the writer and artist on the book. Marvel Comics' official solicitation for the issue is as follows:
SORCERER SUPREME #2WRITER M (W) • ARTIST M (A) • COVER BY LEIRIX • VARIANT COVER BY MARCO FERRARIVARIANT COVER BY JENNY FRISSON • VIRGIN VARIANT COVER BY JENNY FRISONPROMO VARIANT COVER BY DEVMALYA PRAMANIKVARIANT COVER BY RUSSELL DAUTERMAN • VARIANT COVER BY NIMIT MALAVIAWHO IS THE TRUE SORCERER SUPREME?Earth’s radical new magical authority defied the Vishanti to seize the title of Sorcerer Supreme. But the Vishanti won’t take the insult lying down. It’s SORCERER SUPREME vs. SORCERER SUPREME as the upstart challenges the Vishanti’s anointed champion! But with the Vishanti distracted by the battle over Earth, what rising threats have escaped their notice?32 PGS./Rated T+ …$3.99

Unless there's a hot new writer-artist named "M" (Fritz Lang, you're still alive?), then "M" is almost certainly a placeholder for creatives we're already familiar with. Obviously, this isn't a mistake, because the solicit for Sorcerer Supreme #1 also featured this mysterious "M." So why would Marvel do this? Is it because the team that's on Sorcerer Supreme is already working on another book right now, and including their names in the solicit would give away the mystery behind this book, before it's even come out? Is this a tried-and-true way to drum up sales? Is it going to be such a huge surprise that Marvel didn't even want to reveal it at New York Comic Con earlier this month, even though they were talking about comics that come out later than this one?
It's worth noting that longtime DC mainstay Joshua Williamson was announced as the writer behind 2026 Iron Man #1 at NYCC this year. Could Williamson also be moving into the magic side of the Marvel Universe, and Marvel is simply keeping it a secret for now? Or might there be other high profile creators making a return to Marvel that aren't ready to be announced just yet? It all remains as much a mystery as the identity of the new Sorcerer Supreme themselves - but at least we can make guesses for who that might be, given the characters appearing on the covers for the comics already released.
Personally, I would love it if that "M" stood for "Marjorie Liu," but who am I to say anything? I'm just a dude reading her run on Dark Wolverine right now.
We might have to wait until Sorcerer Supreme #1's release on December 31, 2025 to see if the issue contains any answers about the book's creative team... or if they'll somehow be named as Writer M and Artist M inside the comic, too. (This wouldn't be a first for Marvel; the 2001 series The Brotherhood was officially credited to Writer X.)
