All the episodes of the MCU's Ironheart show are now streaming on Disney+. But one thing you won't be able to find at your local comic shop or on digital subscription service Marvel Unlimited is Stephanie Williams and Jim Towe's quasi-related Invincible Ironheart comic book series. 

Originally set to be announced for a August 2023 launch, Williams and Towe's Riri Williams: Invincible Ironheart mini-series was canceled at the last minute after the Disney+ Ironheart show's premiere date was moved to 2025. On Threads, Williams shared black and white artwork from the series, as well as an image of Marvel's catalog description for the first issue, stating that it was, "The Ironheart miniseries that never was..." adding, "it was cancelled due to the show getting pushed back at the time." 

It's a huge bummer that Williams and Towe never got to show the world their Ironheart story. Williams is a powerhouse writer, having helped shape the status quo of the Wonder Woman family these last few years ove at DC through books like Nubia and the Amazons and Nubia: Queen of the Amazons. I would have loved to read an Ironheart story written by her. Likewise, Towe's artwork blends a street-level sensibility that so many Marvel fans have come to cherish with the dynamic and high-tech spectacle of an Iron-Family story. (I'm calling them the Iron-Family now.)

To top it all off, Marvel couldn't simply publish this series now to tie in with the eventual release of the Ironheart show on Disney+, because the events in Williams and Towe's mini-series were set contemporaneously with other stories in 2023 Marvel books. Riri, at the time, wielded the Ten Rings from The Mandarin as a result of events in the Iron Man comic book of the time... and, unfortunately, in 2025, she no longer has the Rings. I think it's fair to say that that was a huge missed opportunity on Marvel's part. Hopefully, Marvel will get a new Ironheart comic book project going as soon as possible... ideally with Williams and Towe attached.
