Brad Meltzer was once the writer of superhero books like Justice League of America, Green Arrow, and Identity Crisis, but these days, he's busy at work with publishing Ghost Machine comics through Image Comics and finding time to write novels. But what's the one thing that would tear him away from his other responsibilities? Boarding the latest Marvel/DC crossover.

On the Comic Book Couples Counseling podcast, Brad Meltzer revealed how he was brought on to write Spider-Man/Superman.

"I get this phone call, and it's [Spider-Man editor] Nick Lowe, and he's like, 'I have this project I got for ya,' And I'm like 'Nick, I can't do it, I cannot do it, I'm busy doing Ghost Machine, busy doing all this stuff, I can't wait to do First Ghost, gotta work on the new novel.' And he's like, 'You can do Spider-Man and Superman.' And I'm just like, 'Oh my god.' I'm literally, I just start sweating in the room. I'm just like, 'I've been waiting my whole life for someone to ask me that,'" Meltzer began.

"And it was funny because we were trying to figure out how to work it within Ghost Machine and make sure it could work, and I could not help but just write the whole story. And I said, 'If we don't make this deal work, and it doesn't work out, I'm just gonna release it as fan fiction. I do not care.' Because once the opportunity was there in my head, I just wrote the whole thing," Meltzer said.

Spider-Man/Superman #1 will be out from Marvel Comics on April 15, 2026.
