The end is nigh for the Marvel Universe, and Marvel has now given more details about just what it’s going to look like when Armageddon begins this summer. Spoilers: there might be a new world war on its way, leading to a new world in its wake.

Following months of teases — and two explicit lead-in comic book storylines — the five-issue event, now officially titled Avengers: Armageddon, will begin in June as writer Chip Zdarsky re-teams with his Captain America collaborators Frank Alpizar and Delio Diaz to tell the story of what happens when the Red Hulk claims Latveria for himself, inciting a global conflict that will change how the citizens of the Marvel Universe look at the very many superpowered beings running (and flying) around amongst them.

Despite the title, this story isn’t only going to feature the Avengers — Marvel’s official description of the series runs, “Red Hulk’s devastating tear across the globe must be stopped…but it will take a colossal gathering of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes to do it! Calling in the Avengers, the Fantastic Four, Wolverine and more…but who will survive this super-powered cataclysm?! There will be a pre-Armageddon Marvel Universe and a post-Armageddon Marvel Universe. Be here to bear witness to the transformation.”

The five-part Avengers: Armageddon is subtitled ‘The Origin of the End,’ but it’s actually just the beginning of something new — namely, what Marvel is describing as “a new era of Avengers starting later this year.”

Avengers: Armageddon #1 will be released in comic stores and online June 3.
