Invincible co-creator Cory Walker didn't disappear when he left the book after issue #7, and has been working behind-the-scenes all this time on the comic & TV series
It turns out Cory Walker stays involved in the Invincible comic book series long after everyone thought he stepped away

In 2003 Robert Kirkman and Cory Walker joined forces to publish Invincible. The comic presented a more mature and violent look at the superhero genre, and while it took some time to find an audience, it grew to become a critical and commercial success. Cory Walker stopped penciling the series after the first 7 issues, with Ryan Ottley taking his place. Walker would return for occasional issues, but Ottley was the main penciler for the rest of the series.
However, that doesn’t mean Walker stayed on the sidelines. “Cory was very instrumental along the way, despite the fact that he only did I think 18 issues of the 144-issue run,” Robert Kirkman says during a recent appearance on Robservations with Rob Liefeld.
“It should be noted that Cory was present even when he wasn’t drawing issues. Cory designed Thragg. Cory designed Universa. [Ryan Ottley] was so busy drawing the pages that a lot of the times when new characters would show up he would be like, yeah, I can’t get to that design yet. And I’d be like, alright, let me ask Cory, and then Cory would knock something out. And sometimes Ryan would collaborate with Cory. And sometimes we just used Cory’s design outright.”
Kirkman went on to say that Walker is still involved today and is an active part of the Invincible animated series. His producer and lead character designer credits weren’t for show. Walker played an active role in production meetings, helping the animators bring the comic to life.
“Cory is a producer and he helps with the design team. He was the lead character designer for the first season. Then he took a produceorial role and he oversees that department and helps keep things on model and things like that. But he really is a producer on the show. So he’s in all of the storyboard meetings with me and when we go over animatics and things like that, he’s getting scripts and going over scripts. When we do our first writer’s room pass where we get together for a week and we map out what issues of the comic we’re going to be covering and where they’re going to fall in each episode, Cory is present for that and helps me remember things, which is nice.”
