At long last, the Hunter x Hunter manga is returning after a 20-month hiatus - but they're a catch
20 months away from Gon and the gang is just too long.

For a year and a half, Hunter x Hunter fans have been waiting with bated breath for the manga’s potential return. Yoshihiro Togashi’s popular manga has started and stopped multiple times over the past several years due to the mangaka’s health struggles, so news that Hunter x Hunter would be returning to Weekly Shonen Jump this October was one of the more welcome surprises to come from the publisher’s recent livestream.
Togashi has been teasing progress on Hunter x Hunter all year, posting images of page and chapter numbers on his social media to assure fans that he hadn’t given up on finishing the manga. We won’t have to wait much longer now – the Hunter x Hunter manga is returning on October 7, 2024 with its first new material in over a year.
Despite its popularity, the return of Hunter x Hunter hasn’t always been a certainty. Back in November, Togashi revealed that he had actually made plans on how the series would end if he passed away before he got the chance to finish it, which is why fans have all breathed a collective sigh of relief. However, there is a catch; to help Togashi manage his back pain, which has reportedly made it nearly impossible for him to sit at a desk for more than a few minutes at a time, Hunter x Hunter won’t be returning on a weekly release schedule. Instead, new chapters will be published in Weekly Shonen Jump as they are completed.
The previous chapter of Hunter x Hunter, Chapter 400, was published in January 2023, though the current 20-month hiatus is not nearly as long as the nearly four-year break Togashi took between 2018 and 2022. Hopefully, the non-serialized release schedule will allow him to focus on his health while still moving the story of Gon and his friends forward to his planned conclusion.
