Doctor Doom conquers time and Marvel Comics alike before Avengers: Doomsday lets him conquer the MCU
Two new comic book projects will spotlight the new big bad of the Marvel Cinematic Universe this summer

The Popverse coverage of the ComicsPRO Annual Meeting 2026 is brought to you by Lunar Distribution. Commited to Retailers. Focused on the Future of Comics.
There’s a lot of Doom in the air this year, as Marvel Comics prepares for the December release of Avengers: Doomsday with two upcoming comic book projects to cement the standing of Latveria’s ruler in the eyes of fans once and for all.
Launching in May, the 10-issue Doomquest sees writer Ryan North — who wrote what might be Doom’s final days in the 2025 series One World Under Doom — return to the character for a time-traveling story in which Doctor Doom journeys through the history of the Marvel Universe to rewrite time itself in order to achieve ultimate glory… although whether that’s for his homeland of Latveria or himself is, of course, open to question. Francesco Mobili illustrates the series, which will feature covers from Alex Ross; interestingly enough, at ComicsPro 2026, Marvel SVP of Print, Sales & Marketing David Gabriel suggested that it’s purposefully unclear how the story fits into ongoing core Marvel continuity, which might have a specific meaning given that it is, after all, a time travel story. Hmmmm.
More clear, however, is where the second big Doctor Doom project of Marvel Comics’ 2026 calendar fits in the grand scheme of things — it’s even in the title. Doom: Day One is a one-off special issue by Al Ewing and Mike Henderson to be released in June revealing what Ewing describes as “the birth of Doom.” Sounds like some ideal reading ahead of the character’s MCU debut, if you ask me.

Doomquest #1 will be released May 27. Doom: Day One will be released at some point in June.
