It's the end of an era as far as DC Comics' press relations, as the company's longtime publicity manager Michael Shelling has quietly announced his departure from the company. After nearly 11 years and more than a few title changes and management shifts, he leaves a very different DC publicity department than when he began, with the comics division able to work much more closely with various departments within Warner Bros. - while also encouraging the comics to be comics.

At press time it's unknown the circumstances behind Shelling's departure, however for DC Comics' publicity matters it would seem to be left in capable hands with DC's senior publicity & communications manager, Clark Bull, and overall head of DC's publicity & communications, Carrie Williams.
Shelling joined DC in 2014 as the company was in the midst of a transition from its longtime New York City offices to be closer to its corporate parent, Warner Bros. According to Shelling, his role at DC was to "oversee, manage and implement publicity campaigns for DC-branded content" - primarily with the comics, but also in partnership with other divisions that of various products and collectibles. For journalists like myself who cover DC Comics, Shelling was one of (if not the) primary contact relating to news, interviews, and in general relations with the company.
Shelling, a long-time California resident, came to DC after nearly 20 years in video game PR, working for Sony, EA, and Konami. Shelling took over the DC publicity position in 2014 from Alex Segura, who went on to have a successful career as an author. We look forward to seeing what Michael Shelling's next chapter is - and we hope just as successful.
