In the wake of the events of next month’s DC All-In Special #1, the DCU is filled with more mysteries than ever before, so it only stands to reason that someone needs to stand up and deal with all of them. Thankfully, creators Christopher Cantrell and Sean Izaakse know exactly who should take care of that: Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman… the new Challengers of the Unknown.

Wait, what?

For those unfamiliar with the DC comic book team of that name, the Challengers of the Unknown were originally a group of four fearless adventurers created by Jack Kirby that have often been seen as a forerunner of his work co-creating Marvel’s Fantastic Four; Ace Morgan, Prof Haley, Red Ryan, and Rocky Davis first appeared in1957’s Showcase #6, making a handful of further appearances in that title before receiving their own comic a year later.

That group — and later arrival, June Robbins — will still be present in the new Challengers of the Unknown series launching from DC in December, but they’ll have a new role. As the publisher puts it, the events of DC All-In Special #1 will have torn open space and time, leaving the Challengers dealing with some established DC heroes as new recruits in attempting to seal the holes in reality, including the Justice League themselves. The covers for the first issue place Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman alongside the team, but who else will show up? Fans will have to keep reading to find out.
