Considering the number of criminals that Batman deals with on a regular basis — never mind those that the Gotham City Police Department is putting away on their own at the same time — it’s worth wondering just how the legal system in the freakiest city in the DC Universe doesn’t collapse on a regular basis. Who even defends these guys? A new series from Christian Ward and Fábio Veras answers that last question… even if the opposing counsel is inside his own mind.
Ward and Veras are behind a new Two-Face miniseries — the first solo (ie, Batman isn’t a co-star) series featuring the long-term villain in his 82-year history — that sees Harvey Dent return to his legal roots, acting as an attorney to Gotham’s “weirdest and most dangerous criminals,” according to DC… but even as he tries to stay on the straight-and-narrow, his evil half is plotting a criminal takeover all of his own making: to gain full control of Dent’s body.
“After falling in love with writing the beautiful, complicate, Harvey in Batman: City of Madness, I couldn't be more excited to be, or prouder, to be writing Two-Face's very first solo series,” Ward said in a statement provided by DC. “Two-Face is without any hesitation not just my favorite Batman villain but my favorite character in all of Gotham, and I'm thrilled to be taking him, together with superstar artist in the making Fábio Veras and the legends that are colourist Ivan Plascencia and letterer Hassan Otsmane-Elhaou, to some wild places you might not be expecting.”
The series launches December 4 with a first issue featuring covers from Baldemar Rivas, Chris Samnee, Leonardo Romero, and Ward himself. Take a look at each, as well as interior art from Fábio Veras, with colors by Ivan Plascencia, in the gallery below.
