DC’s Absolute Universe was born out of a desire not to sell the most books, but to help the comics industry "be healthier" (but it's doing both)

Absolute Green Arrow writer Pornsak Pichetshote was drawn to DC Comics' Absolute Universe because of the "generous" spirit behind it

Writer Pornsak Pichetshote has been working in the comics industry for decades, and now, he's set to be introduced to the wider fanbase of DC's Absolute Universe with the upcoming series, Absolute Green Arrow. With artist Rafael Albuquerque, Pichetshote will craft a slasher-inspired story of the Absolute Universe's Green Arrow hunting down billionaires, making it one of the most highly anticipated new comic book series of 2026. But given how Pichetshote hasn't done much work for DC Comics before, aside from an excellent Dead Boy Detectives mini-series from a few years ago, what brought this Eisner-winning indie comics darling to the biggest line in American comics?

For Pichetshote, the Absolute line was such an attractive project to him because of the ethos of its architect, Scott Snyder. "Primary thing was Scott [Snyder] wanting not to just make a hit line of books, but wanting to make something that could help comics be healthier,” Pichetshote said in an interview with SKTCHD

Elsewhere in the interview, Pichetshote revealed that this spirit of collaboration and sharing the wealth is what drew him to the Absolute Universe. "What happened was Scott [Snyder] and them approached me to be on the Absolute books before the ashcan came out, like I’m literally the last name added to that ashcan, so nothing had come out yet. I don’t even have scripts to read of what the books would have been. I just had the idea of what Absolute was," Pichetshote began.

"It was such a generous [idea], the fact that Scott would put his own reputation on the line, put his heart on the line to do something that if it worked, it could bring people to comics. Because I’d seen it so much, not just in comics, but just in media in general, where everyone is just trying to secure their bag and get out. Everyone is just trying to find their win and carve their money for themselves. And Scott was doing something that was going to benefit the industry if it worked… I’m honored to be asked that I could be helpful in that… there was no way I was going to say 'No.'"

Also in the interview, Pichetshote said that while the premise of Absolute Green Arrow is something he's personally interested in reading, he's unsure whether other people will feel the same way. And I'm here to say that I'm hyped for Absolute Green Arrow. So Mr. Pichetshote, you're not alone in your enthusiasm for seeing the Emerald Archer dole out some sweet, sweet justice.

Here's an update to date guide on the Absolute Batman release schedule.
