Scott Snyder admits he was “terrified” to write Absolute Batman — and almost quit unless Nick Dragotta said yes

Scott Snyder was scared to do Absolute Batman, and says he was secretly hoping Nick Dragotta would turn down the book

If you’ve read Absolute Batman, then you know just how much he terrifies criminals in DC Comics. His beefy physique, his violent ways (maiming a criminal in the first issue), and his relentless planning have made him one scary vigilante. However, it’s not just the criminals of Gotham who fear this alternate universe of Batman – Scott Snyder does as well.

When Absolute Batman writer Scott Snyder was developing the project, he was afraid he wouldn’t be able to pull it off. In fact, Snyder says he wouldn’t have gone ahead with the book if artist Nick Dragotta hadn’t agreed to join him.

“[Nick Dragotta was] the only person I had in mind to partner with,” Scott Snyder tells Popverse’s Chris Arrant. “I was half hoping he’d say no and then be like, ‘Well, now I can’t do it.’ But I remember walking around my neighborhood and calling him and him being like, ‘If you’re doing it, then I’m doing it.’ But one of the great things about him is, he’s become one of my best friends now, and he lives across the bay from me, and so we get together physically to work on the book a lot.”
