Ever since Absolute Batman #1 hit stands in October 2024, Scott Snyder and Nick Dragotta's bold new take on the Dark Knight of DC Comics has been making waves in pop culture today. The success of Absolute Batman, for me at least, has reignited some of my faith in humanity. Being alive today can often be terrible, but at least millions of people around the world can all agree that a 6'6" Batman (standing nearly 7" in the boots and cowl) with a massive battle axe is a Batman who rocks - especially when he's fighting white supremacists. 

Since Absolute Batman began, Snyder and Dragotta haven't let their collective foot off the gas pedal of big, bold creative swings. The near-kaiju version of Bane and the nightmarish Absolute Joker have taken the internet (and comic book shops) by storm. And for writer Scott Snyder, it's been a relief to see that some of the series's edgier moments have been welcomed by fans, as he revealed recently on the Off Panel podcast from SKTCHD. 

"[Artist Nick Dragotta and I] really do stay in a cocoon about 'let's just make the book we really want to make.' [Absolute Batman] is that. It's not trying to follow a formula of success at all," Snyder began. "Some of the things that people have enjoyed the most were things that we thought might sink the book. Like when Batman punts that kid off the yacht, I was like, ‘This is jump the shark moment right here.’ But I love it, he was like, 'I love it too.' So, alright, let's do it.”

The moment that Snyder was referring to was from Absolute Batman #6, which you can read now in the first volume of the series' collected edition. 

There are many things that are certain about Absolute Batman, one of those being that it is the gift that keeps on giving, thanks to Snyder and Dragotta's creative partnership.
