Dav Pilkey is already working on a new Captain Underpants book, to follow April's First Epic Manga with Motojiro

Dav Pilkey and artist Motojiro are already working on Captain Underpants: The Second Epic Manga.

The newest addition to the Captain Underpants empire might be in an unexpected format, with Captain Underpants: The First Epic Manga hitting shelves in early April 2026. Well, that title is apparently very appropriate, as Dav Pilkey and Motojiro have quietly announced that the sequel to Captain Underpants: The First Epic Manga is on the way, even before the first volume hits our shelves.

Fans who pick up the first Captain Underpants manga will notice that there is a Notes & Fun Facts page near the end. This contains some information about why they chose to keep the comic in the left-to-right format of Western comics instead of the usual right-to-left format of Japanese comics and translations for the various sound effects on the pages. However, in the lower-right-hand of the section, there is a small detail that will definitely excite fans hoping for more Captain Underpants manga: more is indeed on the way.

“Dav Pilkey and Motojiro are currently working on the first sequel to this book,” the image says. “Turn the page to see a sneak peek of Captain Underpants: The Second Epic Manga!!!”

What follows are four pages of the sequel to the Captain Underpants manga, which includes a battle between an anthropomorphic toilet and a sentient toilet paper-themed hero called Wipey McButtface. This seems in line with what we expect from an adaptation of Captain Underpants and the Attack of the Talking Toilets.

We don’t have a release date for this sneakily announced title, but fans will be excited to find out that Captain Underpants: The Epic Second Manga is on its way.
