Marvel revives the Avengers Academy franchise to train the next generation of superheroes

Meet the first new class of Avengers Academy students in over a decade.

12 years after closing its doors, Marvel is re-opening the school for would-be Avengers.

Fan-favorite title Avengers Academy is returning as a new digital-first comic book series, titled Avengers Academy: Marvel's Voices, featuring a line-up that includes second-generation heroes, new heroes taking on other more popular heroes' mantles, the grandson of a famous villain, and someone who is, perhaps surprisingly, all their own.

The weekly series will be created by writer Anthony Oliveira and artists Carola Borelli, Bailie Rosenlund, and others to be announced at a later date. The student heroes of this incarnation of the team are:

Kid Juggernaut: Justin Jin, the new avatar of the demon Cyttorak, whose gem powers the Juggernaut
Moon Girl
Devil Dinosaur
Red Goblin: Normie Osborn, the grandson of Norman Osborn (the Green Goblin) bonded with a Venom symbiote named Rascall
Bloodline: Brielle, the daughter of Blade
Captain America of the Railways: Aaron Fischer, a runaway-turned-hero
Escapade: A new mutant named Shela Sexton

The original Avengers Academy concept was created in 2010 following the events of Marvel's Civil War and Secret Invasion comic book events as an Avengers equivalent of the super-school concept that the X-Men is built on. The inaugural teaching staff for that initial version of the series was Ant-Man (Henry Pym), Tigra, Speedball, Justice, Jocasta and Quicksilver. That first series, which ended in 2012, inspired a fondly-remembred mobile app of the same name featuring teen versions of popular heroes such as Captain America, Iron Man, and Black Widow.

Avengers: Academy: Marvel's Voices was announced as ongoing series with new installments every Wednesday, exclusively on the Marvel Unlimited app.
