The one thing that the John Wick franchise has consistently delivered has been action, so it is surprising that the upcoming spin-off to the series, Ballerina, was losing its initial release date to allow the team to add even more action sequences to the film. Instead of coming out in June 2024, fans will need to wait until summer 2025 to see the Ballerina in action.
Originally, Ballerina was due to come out June 7, 2024, but the need for additional action scenes has caused Lionsgate to shift their schedule around. Instead, Ballerina will be released on June 6, 2025, while The Crow reboot film will take its initial release date. The shift in release date marks an almost year-long delay for Ballerina while the cast and crew perform the necessary reshoots to up the action in the spin-off film.
Ballerina is the first spin-off filmed planned for the John Wick franchise. In it, Ana de Armas, who previously starred opposite Daniel Craig in 2021’s No Time to Die, plays an assassin-ballerina who is hunting the people who murdered her family. It takes place between John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum and John Wick: Chapter 4, which opens the door for Keanu Reeves to reprise his role as the dreaded Baba Yaga.
In addition to de Armas and Reeves, Anjelica Huston and Ian McShane are both expected to reprise their roles from previous John Wick films. Ballerina also marks the return of Lance Reddick as Charon in what is expected to be his final released film after the actor died in March 2023.
