Attack on Titan and Spy x Family directors are signed up for Netflix's upcoming The One Piece anime remake
Studio Wit has named the main staff for the upcoming remake of the beloved anime and manga, headed to Netflix, and it's something giving us plenty of hope

The fact that One Piece has been going for so long that we’re getting a remake of it while the original anime and manga are still ongoing is a testament to the remarkable timelessness of its story and characters. We still don’t know exactly when it is going to make its way to Netflix, but we know who is going to be bringing the show together, now that Studio Wit has announced the main staff on the upcoming The One Piece anime.
During Day Two of the One Piece Day 2024 livestream, fans were treated to the news that Wit is bringing staff from two of their biggest past hits – Attack on Titan and Spy x Family – to the new show. Mashashi Koizuka, who served as director of Attack on Titan, will be helming The One Piece when it finally lands in the Netflix library. Hideaki Abe will serve as assistant director, having also worked on Attack on Titan and Suicide Squad ISEKAI in the past. The chief animation director for Spy x Family, Kyoji Asano, will serve alongside Takatoshi Honda as character designers and chief animation directors.
The One Piece main staff announced at One Piece Day 2024 are:
- Mashashi Koizuka – Director
- Hideaki Abe – Assisstent Director
- Kyoji Asano – Character Designer and Chief Animation Director
- Takatoshi Honda – Character Designer and Chief Animation Director
- Taku Kishimoto – Series Scripts
- Yasuhiro Kajino – Image Board and Creature Design
- Eri Taguchi – Prop Design
- Shuhei Fukuda – Action Animator
- Ken Imaizumi – Action Animator
- Tomonori Kuroda – Art Director
- Ryoma Kawamura – Animation Producer
This, along with a handful of concept art stills that show Wit isn't straying far from Eiichiro Oda's iconic character designs, is the first major news we’ve had about The One Piece since it was announced in December 2023. It is set to adapt the story of Oda’s manga starting from the East Blue Saga. Netflix is confirmed to be bringing the second anime adaptation of the manga to fans around the world, potentially at the same time that they are making the live-action show, meaning that the streamer is putting a lot of faith that people can’t get enough One Piece.
