A spoiler-filled look at Resurgence of the Valiant Universe #2 after this week's surprise return

Fred Van Lente talks about the surprise return of [spoilers] in Resurgence of the Valiant Universe.

We are in the middle of a revival of the Valiant Comics superhero universe, especially with the news that this week's aptly titled Resurgence of the Valiant Universe #1 is the best-selling Valiant comic of all of the Valiant books published as part of Alien Comics takeover of the line.

Spoilers ahead for Resurgence of the Valiant Universe #1 (and even #2, which isn't even out yet).

In this week's issue, we saw the surprise return of Flamingo, as well as the announced-but-still-great-to-see returns of the Geomancer Kay Henry and the 4001 AD era Rai, coming back to our times.

Ahead of issue #2, we talked with series writer Fred Van Lente - who also shared some pages from the issue from artist Guillermo Fajardo.

"It was great to see Kay McHenry, the Geomancer, return after her death in The Valiant," Van Lente tells Popverse. "She was always one of my favorite questions. The original idea was - dating myself and her here - 'What if Bridget Jones was Dr. Strange?' She's become a much deeper and more interesting character since then."

When asked about the surprise return of Flamingo, Van Lente tells us she will play "a very important role in Resurgence, though for which side I'm not at liberty to say..."

The strong sales for Resurgence #1 has led Alien to add an issue to the end of the series - Resurgence: Finale - which will also set up a big 2025 for the Valiant line.

Resurgence of the Valiant Universe #2 goes on sale October 23. Here's a gallery of all the covers to the issue:
